Why BQC is hosting a Reminder Day Event

In 1965, 40 gay and lesbians held the first Reminder Day demonstration in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was symbolically held in front of Independence Hall, meant to draw attention to the civil rights still due to the LGBT community.

This was one of the first organized demonstrations for gay rights in the world and continued until July 4, 1969, a few days after Stonewall.

We are still fighting for LGBTQ+ rights, with the largest harm currently being felt by the transgender/queer rights in our country. July 4 is a time to celebrate the progress made and make others aware of the inequities our government is allowing and endorsing.

About the venue

The Wheelhouse at the Community Boating Center (CBC) is an accessible space with an elevator to the upstairs event space. There are individual restrooms with showers downstairs.
