Generations of Pride
Generations of Pride is our intergenerational community dinner centering LGBTQ+ people and allies in the Bellingham/Whatcom community. We gather on the last Wednesday of every month for a free catered dinner for folks 18 years or older at Bellingham Senior Activity Center (315 Halleck St).
Each month we have a different topic for discussion with breakouts to help connect LGBTQ+ people across generations.
We believe queer community is strongest when generations know one another. Too often, LGBTQIA+ people experience community in age-separated spaces. Younger people may have limited opportunities to connect with elders who have lived through earlier movements for LGBTQIA+ liberation, while older adults can experience social isolation and fewer opportunities to remain meaningfully connected to queer community life. For many of our younger attendees, opportunities to build relationships with trusted LGBTQIA+ adults are especially meaningful. Some do not have supportive or affirming adults in their lives who understand their experiences. Queer elders offer perspective, encouragement, mentorship, and a connection to our shared history.
Generations of Pride is hosted collaboratively by LGBTQ+ Western, Bellingham Queer Collective, and PFLAG Bellingham/Whatcom, and was inspired by research from Western's Psychology Department's Listen Lab.
