COMMUNITY EVENT: Wild Whatcom Out and About

Out and About is a monthly nature program for queer adults (18+). Join us for Beaver Prowl | Saturday, April 18, 2026 | 6:30-8:30PM

Get curious about North America’s largest rodent - beavers! Learn all about these ecosystem engineers and what makes them so unique, then take an evening stroll around a beautiful local wetland filled with awesome wildlife such as beavers, muskrats, bats, raptors, and waterfowl. Even if we don’t see any beavers, we can often hear them slapping their tails on the water in territorial displays, and will definitely see lots of evidence of beavers on the landscape, such as chewed sticks and scent mounds. This evening excursion is a fun way to see our environment in a new light, literally!

COMMUNITY EVENT: Wild Whatcom Out and About

Out and About is a monthly nature program for queer adults (18+). Join us for Swans at Sunset on Saturday, February 14, 2026 from 4:30-6:30PM.

Join us to explore a very special spot where we can view the Tundra and Trumpeter Swans who visit our region exclusively in the winter. This area has a tall watch tower where we can observe the swans fly back to the lake where they spend the night after foraging in agricultural fields during the day. We frequently see Barn Owls, American bitterns, Foxes, Raccoons and lots of other wildlife while we explore here during dusk.
