Dear Friends,
Fall has arrived in Bellingham! The students are back, the weather is changing, and October brings one of our favorite things: plenty of opportunities to dress up, gather together, and celebrate our wonderfully queer community.
For the past three years, BQC has hosted the Bellingham Erotic Ball, welcoming 300–400 guests each year for a one-of-a-kind queer adult Halloween celebration. More than just a great party, the Erotic Ball helped us build community, grow BQC, and raise critical funds toward our dream of opening the BQC Community Center.
This year, we made the intentional decision to pause the Erotic Ball so we could focus our volunteer energy and resources on something we have worked toward for years: opening and building a strong foundation for our new community center.
And what a year it has been! Thanks to the incredible dedication of our board and more than 100 volunteers, our beautiful BQC Community Center is open and thriving. We are so grateful to everyone who has helped make this dream a reality.
We’ll definitely miss the fun and excitement of the Erotic Ball this year, but there is no shortage of Halloween spirit in Bellingham! There are lots of special events happening this month where our queer community will be welcomed to dress up, get out, and enjoy some downtown fun—and we’ll be there too!
Check out some of the events highlighted below, get that costume ready, and remember: a great Halloween costume should never be worn just once! Wear it as many times as possible during the most fun month of the year.
We hope to see you out there!
With gratitude,
Michelle Harmeier
